Brandenburg-Görden prison memorial

The Brandenburg-Görden prison memorial consists of two parts: a former execution site from the Nazi period and the permanent exhibition in the former Director’s residence. The memorial site for the former Brandenburg-Görden Prison is located within a secure area inside the modern prison. Between 1940 and 1945, a total of 2,032 men from all over Europe were executed here. The permanent exhibition, „Up there in Görden“  is located outside of today’s prison about 200 meters away. The exhibition presents the history of the prison under National Socialism and the GDR. The tour begins with a presentation of the reformed penal system of the Weimar Republic and ends with a media station that addresses the prison system today.
