Archive of the Lost Villages Forst/Lusatia

The objective of building an information center documenting the history of those 136 villages within the Lusatia region, and that of their residents forced to partially or completely give way to the open pit mine, was achieved on 14 October 2006 with the opening in the community center in Horno. Horno was created as a settlement for the village which disappeared to the mines. The central aspect of the exhibition is an interactive, accessible map depicting the entire Lusatia mining district. Information about the process of the resettlement, chronicles of the villages, information about the Sorbian language use as well as images of historical village perspectives await. Further multimedia and listening stations offer video clips and numerous reports by contemporary witnesses about the history and present of the resettlement.
