District museum Oberhavel Oranienburg
The district museum of Oberhavel is situated in a side wing of the Oranienburg palace. It is dedicated to the history of the region dating from the prehistoric times to the middle ages, as well as to the history of the city of Oranienburg. In the urban history section, visitors come to know, among other things, about the life and work of the renowned chemist Friedlieb Ferdinand Runge and also about the fact that in 1933 the first concentration camp in Prussia was constructed right at the centre of Oranienburg. The exhibition focuses on another aspect, namely the development of the inland navigation of the Mark Brandenburg area and its significance for the economy and communications.
