In Brandenburg, we have museums located in former briquette factories, prisons or steel factories. Any space will do for a museum but especially if there is a symbolical connection to local history. Pritzwalk is the only place where the museum is housed in a brewery. Naturally, the history of Pritzwalk brewing is the dominant subject. In 1891, the Schraube brewing family from Berlin entered business in Pritzwalk. The company achieved its beer production peak in 1943 with an annual production of 40,000 hectoliters of "Schraube Pilsner". After the Second World War, the brewery was confiscated and continued operation as nationally-owned brewery Pritzwalk. Our glass advertising sign is from 1971. After extensive modernization measures of the brewery, production was to be increased to 60,000 hectoliters and advertisement campaigns rolled out to help sales. That was the climax! The brewery location outlasted the end of the GDR but three years ago, the final curtain fell.
