A few years ago, a smashed aluminum box was found in a foxhole from World War II. On it, a Russian soldier had drawn his girlfriend Levka. It also bears the Russian inscription "Bridgehead on the Weichsel river, Poland 1944". The Red Army had reached the Weichsel at the end of July of that year. Sporadically, they managed to conquer bridgeheads west of the river. German and Russian troops faced each other in this location for almost six months. In trench warfare, soldiers have ample time.
